It was about a month ago I was performing my daily facebook creep when I came across an event request for: To Write Love On Her Arms Day . I usually ignore requests such as this, but the name caught my attention and I clicked on. What was revealed to me was a wonderful non-profit movement which provides hope to those struggling with depression, addiction, self hurt and suicide. Depression is an issue that is very near and dear to my heart. It has affected members of my family, and I know of many people who have been dealing with their whole lives. Depression seems to be something people want to keep a secret, something people often seem to be embarrassed about or ashamed of. The reality to me is that depression is a disease, just as cancer is or a heart condition. The only difference is that these people often have to suffer alone, for this type of disease is not kept public or known. Comparing it to cancer might seem to be a bit of a stretch, but it stresses the severity of its effects on those who are burdened with it. To show my support to those who find the strength to wake up every morning and fight back to this disease, I wrote love on my arm today. Makes you think huh? Maybe next November 13th, you should too.
